NuVal is a joint venture, formed in 2008 by Topco Associates LLC and Griffin Hospital of Derby, Conn. Griffin Hospital is a non-profit community hospital and home of the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center. NuVal’s headquarters are in Braintree, Mass. It licenses its proprietary food scoring system for use by food retailers across the country.

In early February, NuVal announced HyVee and Price Cutter stores started using the system. Other retail chains already using NuVal’s system include Kroger Co., Meijer, Giant Eagle and another 27 chains.
